Community Council News
Potholes. Some of the many potholes have been filled on Twmpath Lane but there are many more around the village and in our rural lanes that need to be fixed. We regularly report the potholes to the Vale but there appear to be more holes to fill than they have the resources for.
Village Green- Dog Fouling. Unfortunately we have to again report that there are some irresponsible villagers who are not picking up from their dogs deposits on the Village green. Children play on it and it is very disappointing that dog faeces are left on the grass.
Refuse Collection- recently a family within the community were fined by the Vale for leaving their refuse bags out on the wrong day. We have asked our County Councillor to investigate how this came about.
Conservation area- Several residents have complained about the disappearance of the historic “coffin stile” in the middle of the village. The Vale have been asked to investigate this since it is part of the Conservation Area.
Footpaths- the Community Council arranged for the footpath from Twyn yr Eglwys to Church Lane to be cleared of leaves and other debris as it had become slippery. This has been done.
Road Adoptions- We have nothing further to report on the Attenuation basin on Heol Cae Pwll and our County Councillor is chasing this for us. Some progress with The Vines and residents have been informed by Persimmon that the camera survey was completed and is now with Welsh Water. Persimmon are waiting for their response.
Twmpath weather watch – December confirmed we had the wettest year since Cllr Hadley started keeping records in 2003, in fact 66% more than our average. Up until August it was an average year but the last four months broke all records. Total recorded 1.82 metres. Wettest month October at 292mm.
Fibre optic broadband – the Community Council has been looking into upgrading the village internet connections with fibre optic cable to any property that would like it. Openreach are close to giving us a proposal and when details are known, full information will be posted on the Community Council website soon.
General Maintenance around the Village – The Council would be happy to receive expressions of interest from local tradespeople willing to quote for various jobs that need doing. Some current examples are: Cleaning the bus shelter by the school to remove the green algae; repainting the telephone box on the village green; clearing ivy growth from the Village Well (Ffynnon Gwyl Fihangel) near Ty Draw farm and repainting the security grill over the well. Anyone interested in quoting for any of these projects should contact the Clerk on colwinstoncc@gmail.com. They will need to demonstrate to the Clerk that they have the necessary insurance cover.
